Career highlight: Gold medallist – AIBA World Boxing Championships Chicago 2007/Almaty 2013
Clemente Russo has garnered superstar status in his native Italy after becoming a two-time World Champion, winning gold in 2013 to add to the World Boxing Championships title he acquired six years previously in Chicago.
He has also twice won silver medals at the Olympic Games, in Beijing 2008 and then again at London 2012. The 32-year-old will bring a wealth of experience over a longer rounds format, having registered 19 fights in total (17-2) in WSB for Italia Thunder, with whom he became WSB Team Champion in Season III and Individual Champion in Season II.
In 2005, the muscular Italian also won gold medals at the European Boxing Championships on home turf in Cagliari and in the Mediterranean Games in Almeira.
“AIBA Pro Boxing is an excellent solution. I find that it provides benefits in these areas: you retain your Olympic eligibility, you receive financial security and you can still live your pro boxing dream!” the Italian told us on the chance to both compete professionally whilst preserving his Olympic eligibility.
Russo is a fast and aggressive boxer who looks to lure his opponents in with a low guard, firing punches off from a ‘hitman’ stance and prevailing courtesy of his exceptional conditioning. He is one of the most well-established and eye-catching additions to the APB 91kg category.
